Sustainable design in Milan / Tuttobene launches Dutch design talent
Dutch design platform Tuttobene will be presenting home-grown talent from 14 to 19 April, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, the world’s most important design fair. Right in the centre of Milan, in a former forge in the Via Savona, eleven Dutch designers and design studios will be presented: Marjan van Aubel, Frans Willigers, Bo Reudler Studio, Sjoerd Jonkers, Frederike Top, Studio Re-creation, Doreen Westphal, Marianne Kemp
Horsehairweaving, KLFK, Emma Klinkenberg, and Event Architectuur.
The displayed work ranges from concrete vases, a porcelain cupboard, and horsehair curtains, to a robot made of scrap metal. The common factor is the sustainable character of the designs, which are produced in a way that is ecologically and socially responsible.
While sustainability is a hot item in the design business, good examples are often lacking. In its group presentation, Tuttobene shows collections of work from the front lines of sustainable design.
The Tuttobene presentation is the only one of its kind at the design fair in Milan, where a variety of different objects are shown under the heading of sustainable design.
The presentation offers a sampling of current developments and has often proved to be trendsetting. Previous editions produced such designers as Kiki van Eijk, Joost van Bleijswijk, Frederik Roijé, Lotte van Laatsum, and Floris Schoonderbeek. The 2010 edition will be the seventh group presentation Tuttobene has organized during this design fair.
The organization of the group presentation in Milan was commissioned by the EVD, agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and has been partly developed in collaboration with the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), matchmaking bureau Link2Italy, interior design studio All Your Colours, and Creative Amsterdam.
